Netflix “The Witcher” Review of Season 1 + Character Conflicts Explained [Attachment Theory]

Updated: Mar 6

It made me laugh. It made me cry. It made me YEARN.

It brought to life attachment styles in a way that makes critics disagree with each other, and audiences stand up and clap.

It moved me so much, I decided to make a comprehensive character review and attachment analysis of it…

What is it?

Netflix’s new series, The Witcher.

Despite mixed reviews from critics, The Witcher has become one of Netflix's 10 "most popular" shows of 2019. It is a fantasy story full of corrupt kings, scheming sorcerers, shady politics, and honorable underdogs, with plenty of endearing characters to root for.

The show stars Henry Cavill, who plays Geralt, one of the last Witchers, a race of mutated humans created to kill monsters and protect humanity. (You might recognize Cavill from DC’s recent remake of Superman.)

Netflix's The Witcher is based on the book series written by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski, and while the Netflix series remains closer to the storyline of the books than the popular video games do, it still takes some considerable digressions, which I believe strengthen its translation onto television.

Netflix's The Witcher turned out to be a catchy, bingeable series because the material was restructured, dimensional character arcs that are reflective of 4 attachment styles that we can all relate to, in relationships.

Full disclosure, this review does not compare the storylines of the characters to the original books, or anything else that it is not, but rather examines how well it accomplishes what it sets out to do as its own iteration.

If you like this content and would be interested in my assessment of other popular series or movie characters through the framework of attachment theory, please comment below the video and maybe we can tackle a few!
