[Special Interview] Insecure Attachment Styles Basics

Dearest Subscriber,

Maybe you have been following me for a while, or maybe you are new to attachment styles and how they may be helping or hindering your love life.

Either way, sometimes it’s important to go back to the basics, because attachment styles are not static, they are dynamic states of being. And even individuals who have been aware of their attachment style for a while, still experience confusion over what style they may be experiencing in the moment.

In a nutshell...

*Securely attached individuals are comfortable with intimacy, and can fluidly move through states of separateness and togetherness without fearing being abandoned or smothered. They are what I call, “Cornerstones.”

*Anxiously attached individuals are preoccupied with their romantic relationships, and fear abandonment or rejection. They tend to people-please and over give as a way to secure their attachment relationships. I refer to them as Open hearts.

*Avoidant individuals feel more threatened by closeness and intimacy, and tend to prioritize their personal freedom. They are afraid of being smothered or controlled in a relationship, and insert a lot of distance between themselves and a partner, to prevent that from happening. I refer to these individuals as Rolling Stones.

*Individuals with disorganized attachment, sometimes referred to as “fearful-avoidant” or “anxious-avoidant” experience an intense internal conflict over being both anxiously desirous of closeness and intimacy, while at the same time, fearfully avoiding it. They also usually have experienced some form of unresolved, incidental, chronic, or developmental trauma, in their life. I refer to these individuals as Spice of Lifers
